Complete your application by 11/30 and your fee will be waived!

Visiting Scholar Program

The Visiting Scholar program is available to a limited number of mature scholars who wish to engage in research, usually as part of a paid sabbatical leave from another institution. Individuals applying for Visiting Scholar status receive the following privileges:

  1. Use of the Seminary library, which includes borrowing privileges and access to the library research databases, as well as borrowing privileges at the Firestone Library at Princeton University
  2. Auditing classes (with prior approval of the professor(s) coordinated through the registrar’s office)
  3. Attending public lectures and Seminary community events
  4. Furnished Seminary apartments at a reduced rent (rental rates available upon request).

The Visiting Scholar Program accepts scholars in residence in August, January, or June. Scholars must stay for a minimum of 2 months and no longer than 12 months. The Seminary is not able to guarantee private study space, but there are many accommodating spaces in the library, including lockers for storing belongings and books. We do not offer personal computers or printers. There are no requirements for lectures or other services asked of the visiting scholar. Please note that the Seminary is not able to offer occasional employment or compensation of any kind.

Visiting scholars are required to provide their own medical insurance coverage for themselves and accompanying spouses and dependents in advance of their arrival in Princeton. For our international applicants, our immigration liaison can provide additional information.
